Alejandro Balde's Commitment to Barcelona Amid United Interest
Alejandro Balde has made his stance clear. He wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place, even as the club quietly weighs up whether to cash in before the window slams shut.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barça have been exploring the possibility of a sale in recent weeks, testing the market for a significant offer. The message from Balde’s camp, though, is blunt: he intends to remain at the Camp Nou and compete. Any twist now would require a major bid from a top club, the kind that forces even a reluctant board to listen.
United circle, but funds are tight
One of those clubs monitoring the situation is Manchester United. With their pursuit of Lewis Hall effectively dead after Newcastle United made it clear the England left-back is not for sale, INEOS have been forced to scan the market again for cover and competition for Luke Shaw.
Balde fits the profile. Young, already tested in La Liga and the Champions League, and capable of stepping straight into a high-pressure environment. United have sounded out Barcelona to understand what a deal might look like.
The problem is money. Reports indicate United could only realistically move for a loan at this stage, their budget heavily dented by a midfield rebuild that has cost £148 million up front. A temporary deal is unlikely to tempt Barcelona if they believe Balde can still grow into a long-term asset – especially when they know a “big proposal” is out there as a theoretical possibility.
INEOS weigh alternatives as clock ticks
With Balde pushing to stay and no sign of a sizeable fee from Old Trafford, the chances of United accelerating this pursuit are fading. INEOS have other options on their list: Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig captain David Raum are both being tracked.
Each of those names comes with its own complications. Their clubs would need time to find replacements, and that is the one thing this window no longer offers. Every day lost narrows the path to a deal.
While the left-back search drags on, United’s midfield reshaping is already on show. Carlos Baleba was officially unveiled as a new signing on Tuesday evening, even though an ankle ligament injury picked up in pre-season means he will miss the first stretch of competitive action. He joins Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in what is now a very different engine room for Michael Carrick.
So the picture is clear. Barcelona have a young full-back who wants to stay and prove himself. United have interest, but not the financial muscle for the kind of offer that would change minds in Catalonia. With deadline day looming, something has to give – but will it be Balde’s future, or United’s search strategy?
